Profile of Post Graduate Department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga
Introduction :
Post Graduate Department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga is an important Clinical Department for teaching and training of the students. Department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga was elevated as Post Graduate Dept. by Ayush Grant in aid in the year 2004 when Post Graduate Classes were started in this Department. Annually three (4) P.G. students are admitted in this Department after Combined Entrance test conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University Shimla for three years PG course of MD(Ay) Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga. While department has a well qualified teaching faculty it is also provided with good infrastructure for meeting its aims and objectives. Besides post Graduate classes the department has responsibility of teaching and training of BAMS students of Fourth Year which consists of two theory papers and practical. Department maintains One OPD in Hospital and provides 24 hour emergency and labor room services related to subject. It is also engaged in original research work. Department provides free of cost labor room services to patients under Janani Sureksha Yojana under NRHM and its labor room services are of tertiary care level. Department also provides family planning and operative services to patients who require it.

Hospital Services: Post Graduate department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga maintains One regular OPD and 24 hour emergency services in hospital. Bed occupancy of 20 IPD beds allotted to Department remains excellent. 24 hour labor room services are being provided to the patients of area. Under JSS scheme normal labor as well as caesarean services are provided free of cost to patients. More than 500 hundred deliveries are conducted by Department annually. The caesarean rate of delivery in department is much below the average of State of Himachal and Nation.
Research activities: Department is continuously engaged in evidence based clinical practices of ayurveda described in classics through clinical research. Each year P.G.students are given selected clinical formulation for trial in volunteer patients. Areas of special interest in research are ANC care, Conduction of labor with minimum drug or surgical intervention, Menopause, DUB, Pregnancy related ailments, etc. Excellent evidence of affectivity of ancient ayurvedic practices have been achieved by department through clinical research
Department has participated in Ayurvedic Clinical Trials of Central council of Research in Indian Medicine, Department of Ayush, Government. A very prestigious project study of Department of Ayush, Government of India has been completed by Post Graduate department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga. The project named “Feasibility of Introduction of ISM Services in Reproductive and Child Health” was of 30 months duration and was spread over two districts of Himachal Pradesh namely Kangra and Mandi. HOD of the Department was the principal Investigator and Hospital wing of Department was the Nodal Center of this Project. Final project report has since been submitted with sponsoring agency.
Conclusion: Post Graduate Department of Prasuti Tantra/Stree Roga is much sought after and important department of College. Its academic achievements are reflected in excellent annual university results and it’s clinical and research achievements are reflected in excellent OPD and IPD services as well as well recognized research approach and results.
